World Chagas Disease Day is observed annually on April 14 to raise awareness about Chagas disease (American trypanosomiasis). The 2025 theme is "Prevent, Control, Care: Everyone's role in Chagas disease." This day, first observed in 2020, commemorates the discovery of the disease by Brazilian physician Carlos Chagas on April 14, 1909. Chagas disease is caused by the parasite Trypanosoma cruzi and affects 6-7 million people worldwide, primarily in Latin America, resulting in approximately 12,000 deaths annually.
