Indian Grandmaster D Gukesh, from Chennai, Tamil Nadu, created history by winning the FIDE World Chess Championship 2024 at the age of 18 years. He defeated reigning champion Ding Liren of China, scoring 7.5 points to 6.5 in the 14-game series. Gukesh became the youngest-ever World Chess Champion, surpassing Garry Kasparov, who held the title at 22. He is also the second Indian to achieve this milestone after Viswanathan Anand.
