Both Udaygiri and Himgiri are scheduled to be commissioned at Visakhapatnam. The fact that the ceremony takes place at Visakhapatnam is explicitly stated: the ships will join the Eastern Fleet, which is based there. Visakhapatnam is a principal naval base on India’s eastern seaboard and is routinely used for induction and operational deployment of vessels assigned to the Eastern Fleet. The commissioning event is also notable because it will be presided over by the Defence Minister and represents the Navy accepting the ships into active service at an operational naval harbor.
