    Question

    In each question below are given three statements followed by three conclusions numbered I, II and III. You have to take the three given statements to be true even if they seem to be at variance with commonly known facts and then decide which of the given conclusions logically follows from the two given statements, disregarding commonly known facts. 

    Statement :  All students are parents.  

                       Some teachers are parents.                      No clerk is a student. Conclusion :        I. Some students are definitely not teachers. II. At least some parents are teachers. III. Some clerks are parents.

    Solution

    All students are parents (A) + Some parents are teachers (I) ⇒ No conclusion. Hence conclusion I does not follow. Some teachers are parents (I) ⇒ Conversion ⇒ Some parents are teachers(I). Hence conclusion II follows. No clerk is a student (E) + All students are parents (A) ⇒ Some parents are not clerks (O*). Hence conclusion III does not follow.
