Question
What is the distance between Karan and the person who
stands 30m to the west of Arjun? Read the given information carefully and answer the questions given beside: Eight persons namely Ankit, Arjun, Chetan, Deepak, Eishan, Faisal, Karan and Sanju were standing in different directions with respect to each other. Each of them scored different marks in the English subject among 34, 39, 43, 48, 54, 63 and 70 but not necessarily in the same order. Only two of them have equal marks. Ankit is 12m west of Eishan and his mark is 54. Only Chetan scored the highest mark and stands 15m west of the person, whose marks is 63. Arjun stands 8m north of Sanju, who scored 34 marks. Sanju is 20m south-west of Eishan. The mark scored by Eishan and the person, who stands 15m west of Chetan is same. Karan is 15m west of the person, whose marks is 43. The one who scored third lowest mark is 16m north of Chetan. Deepak is not to the north-west of Ankit. Eishan’s mark is more than 43. Arjun scored more marks than Ankit. Ankit, Arjun and Sanju are standing in a vertical line.Solution
Only Chetan scored the highest mark stands 15m west of the person, whose mark is 63. The one who scored third lowest mark is 16m north of Chetan. From above statements we get, Only Chetan scored 70 marks (highest among given) stands, 15m west of the person, whose mark is 63 (reference point-1) The one who scored 43 marks (third lowest mark) stands, 16m north of Chetan (reference point-2) By using above information we get the following direction as shown, Only two of them have equal marks. The mark scored by Eishan and the person, who stands 15m west of Chetan is same. Eishan’s mark is more than 43. Karan is 15m west of the person, whose mark is 43. From above statements we get, Given, only two of them have equal marks and one of them is Eishan and the other person is the one, who stands 15m west of Chetan is same (reference point 1 and 2) Also given, Eishan’s mark is more than 43 (reference point-3). Therefore we conclude that Eishan doesn’t stand 16m north of Chetan Given, Karan is 15m west of the person, whose mark is 43 (reference point-4). Thus it is clearly understood that the only person who scored 43 marks and Karan stands 15m west of him i.e. Karan stands north-west direction with respect to Chetan as per direction. By using above information we get the following direction as shown,
Each of them scored different marks in the English subject among 34, 39, 43, 48, 54, 63 and 70. Ankit is 12m west of Eishan and his mark is 54. Arjun scored more marks than Ankit. Arjun stands 8m north of Sanju, who scored 34 marks. Sanju is 20m south-west of Eishan. Ankit, Arjun and Sanju are standing in vertical line. From above statements we get, Ankit scored 54 marks and he is 12m west of Eishan (reference point-2) Arjun scored more than Ankit (reference point-3). Therefore the numbers which are more than 54 among given are 63 and 70. We know only Chetan scored 70 marks. Thus Arjun scored 63 marks (only possibility) Arjun (scored 63 marks) stands 8m north of Sanju (scored 34 marks) (reference point-4) Sanju is 20m south-west of Eishan. Ankit, Arjun and Sanju are standing in vertical line (reference point-5) i.e. Arjun stands exactly in between Ankit and Sanju and the distance is calculated as follows, To find the distance between Ankit and Sanju: We know, Ankit to Eishan is 12m (East) and Sanju to Eishan is 20m (north-east) 202 – 122 = 400 – 144 = 256m = 16m Given, the distance between Arjun and Sanju is 8m. Therefore the distance between Arjun and Ankit is also 8m i.e. all 3 (Ankit, Arjun and Sanju) are in the vertical line as shown in figure By using above information we get the following direction as shown,
We know that, the two people who scored same marks are Eishan and the one, who stands 15m west of Chetan. If we observe from figure-1, the one who scored 63 marks stands east of Chetan. Therefore we conclude that Eishan doesn’t score 63 marks (Note: If Eishan scored 63 marks and stands 15m east of Chetan, then Arjun (scored 63 marks) stands south-east of Chetan as per direction which is not possible as per given condition) Also it is cleared that only Arjun scored 63 marks (from figure-2). Now by combining figure 1 and 2, we get that the Arjun scored 63 marks and stands 15m east of Chetan.
Each of them scored different marks in the English subject among 34, 39, 43, 48, 54, 63 and 70. The mark scored by Eishan and the person, who stands 15m west of Chetan is same. Eishan’s mark is more than 43. Deepak is not to the north-west of Ankit. From above statements we get, Remaining persons left are Faisal and Deepak. Remaining marks left that are more than 43 are 48, 54, 63 and 70. Here we know only Chetan scored 70 marks, and Eishan didn’t score 63 marks. Now the remaining marks are 48 and 54. Eishan can’t score 54 marks since Ankit scored 54 marks and both Ankit and Eishan are in straight line at a distance of 12m and also both of them are north-east direction of Chetan. But as per condition, one of two people who scored same mark stands 15m west of Chetan [reference point-2] Therefore we conclude that Eishan scored 48 marks (only possibility, more than 43) [reference point-3] From above figure, If Deepak scored 43 marks, then he will be in the north-west direction of Ankit, which is not possible as per 4th reference point. Therefore Deepak must score 48 marks (one of two people who scored same mark) and stands 15m west of Chetan. Therefore Faisal (only person left) scored 43 marks and stands 16m north of Chetan as per direction. Finally Karan scored 39 marks (only mark is left among given). All the condition get satisfied and we get the completed table as shown,
