    Question

    Train 'A' can cross a tree and a bridge of 300 metres in 5

    sec and 15 sec, respectively. Train 'B' can cross the same bridge in 20 seIf the length of train 'B' is 50 metres more than length of train 'A', then find the time taken by train 'A' to completely overtake train 'B'.
    A 60 sec Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
    B 65 sec Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
    C 70 sec Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
    D 75 sec Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
    E 80 sec Correct Answer Incorrect Answer

    Solution

    Let the length and speed of train 'A' be 'l' metres and 'a' m/s, respectively.
    ATQ,

    (l/a) = 5
    So, 'l' = 5a ....................... (I)

    Also,
    {(l + 300) ÷ a} = 15
    Using value of 'l' from equation (I), we get,
    5a + 300 = 15a
    300 = 10a
    So, a = 30
    l = 5a = 150
    Train B = 150 + 50 = 200 m
    Speed of train B = (200 + 300) ÷ 20 = 25 m/s
    Time = (200 + 150) ÷ (30 25) = 70 sec
