Question
The length of train 'X' is 'y' metres and that of train 'Y'
is (y + 150) metres. If the speeds of train 'X' and 'Y' are 72 km/h and 36 km/h, respectively, and they take 12 seconds to cross each other while travelling in opposite directions, then find the length of train 'X'.Solution
ATQ,
Speed of train 'X' = 72 × (5/18) = 20 m/s
Speed of train 'Y' = 36 × (5/18) = 10 m/s
ATQ;
{(150 + 2y)/(20 + 10)} = 12
Or, 150 + 2y = 360
Or, 2y = 210
Or, y = 105
So, length of train 'X' = 105 metres
