Question

A 150 m long train crosses another 270 m long train running in the opposite direction in 14 seconds. If the shorter train crosses a pole in 12 seconds, what is the speed of longer train?

A 108 km/hr Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
B 90 km/hr Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
C 63 km/hr Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
D 60 km/hr Correct Answer Incorrect Answer

Solution

Speed of the shorter train = 150/12 = 12.5 m/sec Let the speed of the longer train be x km/hr According to the question, ⇒ (12.5 + x) = (150 + 270)/14 ⇒ 12.5 + x = 420/14 ⇒ x = 30 – 12.5 = 17.5 ⇒ x = 17.5 x 18/5 = 63 km/hr
