Question
A 135 m long train crosses another 265 m long train
running in the opposite direction in 10 seconds. If the shorter train crosses a pole in 9 seconds, what is the speed of longer train?Solution
Speed of the shorter train = 135/9 = 15 m/sec Let the speed of the longer train be x km/hr According to the question, ⇒ (15 + x) = (135 + 265)/10 ⇒ 15 + x = 400/10 ⇒ x = 40 – 15 = 25 ⇒ x = 25 x 18/5 = 90 km/hr
