Question
Priya headed out from point A at 9 m/s. 12 seconds later, her friend Kavya started walking faster from the same place and caught up to Priya in 48 seconds. What was Kavya’s walking speed?
Solution
ATQ,
Distance covered by Priya in 12 seconds = 9 × 12 = 108 metres
Relative speed between Kavya and Priya = 108 ÷ 48 = 2.25 m/s
Since Kavya caught up, she’s quicker.
So, Kavya’s speed = 9 + 2.25 = 11.25 m/s
