Question
On travelling with 25% less speed than his actual speed,
Vikram reached the destination 3.5 hours late. Find the time taken by him to reach his destination while travelling with his actual speed.Solution
ATQ, Let the actual speed of Vikram be ‘s’ km/hr. And, actual time taken by him to reach his destination is ‘t’ hours. So, total distance covered by Vikram in ‘t’ hours = {s × t} km --------- (1) Also, Distance covered by Vikram while travelling at 25% less speed = 75% of s × (t + 3.5) = 0.75 × s × (t + 3.5) km --------- (2) From equation (1) and (2), we have s × t = (3/4) × s × (t + 3.5) Or, 4st = 3st + 10.5s Or, st = 10.5s So, t = 10.5 So, required time = 10.5 hours
