Question
Ramesh covered 300 km in total — part of the journey
was by auto at 60 km/h, and the rest by walking at 6 km/h. If total time was 9.5 hours, what distance did he travel by auto?Solution
ATQ,
Let distance by auto = d km
Then, walking distance = 300 - d km
Equation: d / 60 + (300 - d) / 6 = 9.5
LCM of 60 and 6 = 60
Or, (d + 10(300 - d)) / 60 = 9.5
(d + 3000 - 10d)/60 = 9.5
(3000 - 9d)/60 = 9.5
Multiply both sides:
3000 - 9d = 570
9d = 2430
d = 270
Distance by auto = 270 km
