Question
Two ships ‘M’ and ‘N’, which were 1020 km apart,
started traveling towards each other at the same time and met after 6 hours. If the speed of ship ‘M’ is 20 km/h more than the speed of ship ‘N’, then find the speed of ship ‘M’.Solution
ATQ,
Sum of the distance travelled by both ships = 1020 km
Let the speed of ship N = ‘x’ km/h
So, speed of ship M = ‘x + 20’ km/h
So, 6x + 6(x + 20) = 1020
Or, 6x + 6x + 120 = 1020
Or, 12x = 900
Or, x = 75
So, the speed of ship M = (x + 20) = (75 + 20) = 95 km/h
