Question
A car is traveling at 50 km/hr. It increases its speed by 10 km/hr after y hours, and then travels for (y + 7) hours more. If the distance covered in the last (y + 7) hours is 720 km, find the distance covered in the first y hours.
Solution
ATQ, Initial speed = 50 km/hr New speed = 60 km/hr Distance in last (y + 7) hours: 60(y + 7) = 720 y + 7 = 720/60 = 12 y = 12 β 7 = 5 hours Distance in first y hours: Distance = 50y = 50*5 = 250 km
