Question
On travelling with 50% less speed than his actual speed,
Ramesh reached the destination 5 hours late. Find the time taken by him to reach his destination while travelling with his actual speed.Solution
ATQ, Let the actual speed of Ramesh be ‘s’ km/hr. And, actual time taken by him to reach his destination is ‘t’ hours. So, total distance covered by Ramesh in ‘t’ hours = {s × t} km --------- (1) Also, Distance covered by Ramesh while travelling at 50% less speed = 50% of s × (t + 5) = 0.5 × s × (t + 5) km --------- (2) From equation (1) and (2), we have s × t = (1/2) × s × (t + 5) Or, 2st = st + 5s Or, st = 5s So, t = 5 So, required time = 5 hours
