Question
A sum of ₹18,000 is divided into two parts. One part
is invested at 8% simple interest per annum for 3 years, and the remaining part is invested at 10% simple interest per annum for 2 years. If the total simple interest earned from both investments together is ₹3,780, how much money was invested at 8%?Solution
ATQ, Let the amount invested at 8% = ₹x Then amount at 10% = ₹(18,000 − x) Interest from first part= x × 8% × 3 = 0.24x Interest from second part= (18,000 − x) × 10% × 2 = 0.20(18,000 − x) Total interest = 3,780 So, 0.24x + 0.20(18,000 − x) = 3,780 0.24x + 3,600 − 0.20x = 3,780 0.04x = 3,780 − 3,600 = 180 x = 180 ÷ 0.04 = 4,500 So, amount invested at 8% = ₹4,500.
