    Question

Divide Rs 2,760 in to two parts such that when these are

invested for 2 and 4 years, respectively, at the rate of 5% per annum simple interest, the amounts received are equal. What is the second part (in Rs) invested?
A 1,100 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
B 1,500 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
C 1,320 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
D 1,440 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer

    Solution

    Let for the 1st part it is Rs. x So, 2nd part = Rs. (2760 - x) According to the question, x + [(x Γ— 2 Γ— 5)/100] = (2760 - x) + [{(2760 - x) Γ— 4 Γ— 5}/100] β‡’ (100x + 10x)/100 = (276000 - 100x + 55200 - 20x)/100 β‡’ 110x = 331200 - 120x β‡’ 230x = 331200 β‡’ x = 331200/230 β‡’ x = 1440 So, 1st part = Rs. 1440 So, 2nd part = 2760 - 1440 β‡’ Rs. 1320 ∴ The second part (in Rs.) invested is 1320.
