of their expenses is 4 : 7. If each of them saves Rs 3,000 per month, find A’s income.
A 17,000 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
B 57,000 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
C 27,750 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
D 27,000 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer

    Solution

    Let incomes: A = 3x, B = 5x Expenses: A = 4y, B = 7y Savings: 3x − 4y = 3000 ...(1) 5x − 7y = 3000 ...(2) Multiply (1) by 7: 21x − 28y = 21,000 Multiply (2) by 4: 20x − 28y = 12,000 Subtract: (21x − 28y) − (20x − 28y) = 21,000 − 12,000 x = 9,000 Then from (1): 3×9000 − 4y = 3000 27,000 − 4y = 3000 4y = 27,000 − 3,000 = 24,000 y = 6,000 A’s income = 3x = 3 × 9,000 = 27,000
