Question
The ratio of the number of candies with Charu and Disha is
7:5. Disha's father gave her 4 more candies after while Charu stole 33(1/3)% candies possessed by Disha such that the ratio of candies with Charu And Disha becomes 9:4. What is the number of candies with Disha in the beginning?Solution
Let the number of candies with Charu and Disha in the beginning be 7k and 5k respectively.
Candies with Disha after gave 4 candies to her = 5k + 4
After Charu stole from Disha:
Candies with Charu = 7k + (1/3)*(5k + 4) = (26k + 4)/3
Candies with Disha = (2/3)*(5k + 4)
So, (26k + 4)/3 : (10k + 8)/3 = 9:4
=> (26k + 4)/(5k + 4) = 9/2
=> 45k + 36 = 52k + 8
=> 7k = 28
=> k = 4
Number of Candies with Disha in the beginning = 5*4 = 20
