Question
In a company, 60% of the number of girls is equal to two -
third of the total number of boys. When 40 new girls joined the company, then 25% of the number of girls became one - third of the number of boys. Before joining the new girl, what was the total strength (boys and girls) of the company?Solution
In the company, let the number of girls be g and the number of boys be b
Then, 60% of g = 2b/3
3g/5 = 2b/3
9g = 10b
b/g = 9/10
Let b be 9a, then g = 10a
After going 40 new girls, 25% of (10a + 40) = 1*9a/3 = 3a
3a - 2.5a = 10
0.5a = 10
a = 20
Before joining the new girls, the strength of the company = 9a + 10a = 19a = 380
