Question
A container has 360 litres of a mixture containing milk
and water in the ratio of 3:2. 50 litres of milk and ‘p’ litres of water are added into the container so that the final ratio of milk to water becomes 5:4. Find the value of ‘p’.Solution
ATQ,
Quantity of milk in 360 litres of mixture = 360 × [3/(3 + 2)] = 360 × (3/5) = 216 litres
Quantity of water in 360 litres of mixture = 360 – 216 = 144 litres
According to the question;
(216 + 50)/(144 + p) = 5/4
Or, 4(266) = 5(144 + p)
Or, 1064 = 720 + 5p
Or, 5p = 344
Or, p = 68.8 litres
