Question
Find the value of 'x' and 'y' in the following
equation: 8x - 3y = 58 5x + 2y = 106Solution
ATQ,
8x - 3y = 58 ---------- (I)
5x + 2y = 106 -------- (II)
On solving, equation I - (8/5) X equation II,
We get, 8x - 3y - (8/5) × (5x + 2y) = 58 - (8/5) × 106
Or, 8x - 3y - 8x - (16/5)y = 58 - 848/5
Or, (-3y - 16/5y) = (290 - 848)/5
Or, (-15y - 16y)/5 = -558/5
Or, -31y = -558
Or, y = 18
On putting value of 'y' in equation I,
We get, 8x - 3 × 18 = 58
Or, 8x - 54 = 58
Or, 8x = 112
Or, x = 14
