Question
A shopkeeper buys 60 books and recovers the cost price
after selling 40 of them. He sells the remaining 20 books at a profit of 25% and earns Rs. 300 as profit on them. What is the total selling price of the 60 books?Solution
Let the cost price per book be Rs. x.
Total CP = 60x.
SP of 40 books = 60x.
Profit on remaining 20 books = 25%.
So, 20x Ă— 0.25 = 300
5x = 300 ⇒ x = Rs. 60
Total SP = 60x + 1.25 Ă— 20x
= 60 Ă— 60 + 1.25 Ă— 20 Ă— 60
= 3,600 + 1,500 = Rs. 5,100
