Question
A shopkeeper marked his article 75% above the cost price
and sold it after giving a single discount of 12%. If the shopkeeper earned a profit of Rs. 540 in the whole transaction, then find the marked price of the article.Solution
ATQ,
Let the cost price of the article be Rs. ‘10x’. So, marked price of the article = 1.75 × 10x = Rs. ‘17.5x’ Selling price of the article = 0.88 × 17.5x = Rs. 15.4x According to the question: 15.4x – 10x = 540 Or, 5.4x = 540 Or, x = 100 So, the cost price of the article = 10 × 100 = Rs. 1000 Marked price of the article = 1.75 × 1000 = Rs. 1750
