Question
The cost price, selling price and marked price of a watch
are in the ratio 4:6:10. If the gain on the sale is Rs. 400, what is the discount provided?Solution
ATQ,
Let the cost price, selling price and marked price be Rs. 4x, Rs. 6x and Rs. 10x respectively
According to the question,
Profit earned = 6x – 4x = Rs. 2x
Therefore, 2x = 400
Or, x = 200
Therefore, discount offered = 10x – 6x = 4x = 4 × 200 = Rs. 800
