Question
A shopkeeper purchased 40 kg of rice at Rs. 25 per kg. He
sold some of it at a profit of 25% and the remaining at a profit of 35%. If the total profit he earned was Rs. 220, find the quantity of rice sold at 35% profit.Solution
ATQ,
Let the quantity of rice sold at 35% profit be ‘x’ kg and the quantity of rice sold at 25% profit be ‘40 – x’ kg.
ATQ;
25 × 0.25 × (40 – x) + 25 × 0.35 × x = 220
Or, 250 – 6.25x + 8.75x = 220
Or, 2.5x = 30
Or, x = 12
Therefore, the shopkeeper sold 12 kg of rice at 35% profit.
