Question
A dishonest merchant sells his grocery using weights
that are 12% less than the true weights and makes a profit of 10%. Find his total gain percentage.Solution
Let the cost price of 1 kg be ₹100.
He gives only 88% of the weight, so he gives 0.88 kg.
Cost of 0.88 kg = ₹100 × 0.88 = ₹88
He also makes a 10% profit on cost price, so selling price = ₹100 × 1.10 = ₹110
Gain = ₹110 − ₹88 = ₹22
Gain % = (22 / 88) × 100 = 25%
