Quantity of water filled by pipe Q in one minute = 180 / 60 = 3 liters. Let pipe P be closed after ‘x’ minutes. So, 4x + 3 × (36 – x) = 180 4x + 108 - 3x = 180 x = 72 x = 72/1 x = 72 So, pipe P must be closed after 72 minutes.
