Let the total capacity of tank be 40 units Efficiency of pipe ‘A’ = 40/20 = 2 units/hour Efficiency of pipe ‘B’ = 40/40 = 1 units/hour Tank filled in 2 hours = (2 – 1) = 1 units Therefore, tank filled in (2 × 14 = 28 hours) = 1 × 14 = 14 units Required percentage of tank filled = (14/40) × 100 = 35%
