The marks scored by a student in three subjects are in

the ratio 4 : 5 : 6. Student scored an overall aggregate of 40% in the exam. If the maximum marks in each subject are the same, in how many subjects did student score more than 55% marks?
A one Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
B two Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
C none of the subjects Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
D Can't be determined Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
E none of these Correct Answer Incorrect Answer

    Solution

    Let the maximum marks in each subject be 100.  ∴ Student's total score = 40% of (100 + 100 + 100) = 0.4(300) = 120  Also, 55% marks in a subject means 0.55(100) = 55 marks Let student have scored 4x, 5x and 6x in the three subjects. ∴ 4x + 5x + 6x = 120 ∴ 15x = 120        x = 8 Hence, marks in the three subjects are 32, 40 and 48. Hence, in none subject student score more than 55% marks.
