Question
Income of Ramesh is Rs. 48,000. He spent (2n - 9)% of income on food, (n + 1)% of income on rent, (n - 4)% of income on transport and saves the remaining income. If his savings is Rs. 7,680, then find the amount spent by him on food.
Solution
Savings in percentage = (7680/48000) X 100 = 16% So, 2n - 9 + n + 1 + n - 4 = 100 - 16 Or, 4n - 12 = 84 Or, 4n = 96 Or, 'n' = 24 So, (2n - 9) = 48 - 9 = 39 Therefore, amount spent by him on food = (0.39 x 48,000) Γ· 24 = Rs. 780n
