Question
A sum of Rs. 55,200 was divided between 'A' and 'B'
such that the amount received by 'B' was 30% more than that by 'A'. If 'A' and 'B' spent 10% and 25% of the respective amounts received by them, then find the sum of amounts spent by 'A' and 'B' together.Solution
Let the amount received by ‘A’ = Rs. ‘10x’ Then amount received by ‘B’ = 10x × 1.3 = Rs. ‘13x’ we have, 10x + 13x = 55200 So, x = 55200 ÷ 23 = 2400 So, amount received by ‘A’ = 10 × 2400 = Rs. 24,000
Amount received by ‘B’ = 13 × 2400 = Rs. 31,200 Amount spent by ‘A’ = 24000 × 0.1 = Rs. 2,400
Amount spent by ‘B’ = 31200 × 0.25 = Rs. 7,800 So, required sum = 2400 + 7800 = Rs. 10,200
