Question
In a test, P got 20% of total marks and failed by 50 marks while Q got 40% of total marks which is 25 more than passing marks. Find the total marks of the test.
Solution
Let the total marks of the test be βxβ Therefore, marks scored by P = 0.20x Therefore, passing marks of the test = 0.20x + 50 Marks scored by Q = 0.40x Also, passing marks of the test = 0.40x β 25 Therefore, 0.20x + 50 = 0.40x β 25 Or, 0.2x = 75 Or, x = 75/0.20 = 375 Therefore, total marks of the test = 375
