    A spent 25% and 22% of his monthly salary on food and

    rent, respectively. Of the remaining amount, he gave 14% and 20% to his mother and brother, respectively. Find the amount spent by him on food, if the difference between the amount received by his brother and the amount spent on rent is Rs. 1140.

    Let the monthly salary of A be Rs. ‘x’ Amount spent on food = Rs. 0.25x Amount spent on rent = Rs. 0.22x Amount received by brother = (x – 0.25x – 0.22x) × 0.20 = 0.106x So according to question: => 0.22x – 0.106x = 1140 => 0.114x = 1140 => x = 10000 So, the amount spent on food = 0.25 × 10000 = Rs. 2500
