Question
The speed of a car is 30% more than that of a bike. Both
of them start from a same point. After travelling for 7 hours, the speed of the bike is increased by 35%. After 9 hours from starting, the car was 50 km ahead of the bike. Find the initial speed of the bike.Solution
Let the initial speed of the bike be ‘x’ km/hr Therefore, speed of the car = 1.30x km/hr According to the question, 9 × 1.30x – (7x + 2 × 1.35x) = 50 => 11.7x – 9.7x = 50 => x = 50/2 = 25 km/hr
