Deepak and Ramesh started a business by investing Rs. ‘X’ and Rs. (X + 600), respectively. 12 months later, Ramesh withdrew his entire investment. At the end of 18 months, the total profit from the business was Rs. 7,200, out of which profit share of Ramesh was Rs. 1,800 more than that of Deepak. Find the value of ‘X’.

Number of months for which Deepak invested in the business = 12 + 6 = 18 months Let the profit share of Deepak out of the total profit of Rs. 7200 = Rs. ‘Y’ Then, profit share of Ramesh out of the total profit of Rs. 7200 = Rs. (Y + 1800) So, Y + Y + 1800 = 7200 Or, Y = (7200 − 1800) ÷ 2 = 2700 So, profit shares of Deepak and Ramesh are Rs. 2,700 and Rs. 4,500, respectively. So, respective ratio of profit shares of Deepak and Ramesh = (X × 18) : {(X + 600) × 12} = 18X : (12X + 7200) = 2700 : 4500 = 3 : 5 So, 18X × 5 = (12X + 7200) × 3 Or, 90X = 36X + 21600 Or, X = 21600 ÷ 54 = 400 Hence, X = 400
