Question
Amit and Riya started a business by investing in the ratio
6:4 respectively. After 8 months, Karan joined the business, investing an amount equal to the average of Amit’s and Riya’s investments. If the total profit at the end of 16 months was Rs. 3,64,000, how much profit did Riya receive?Solution
ATQ,
Let the initial investment of Amit and Riya be Rs. ‘6x’ and Rs. ‘4x’, respectively.
So, the investment of Karan = (6x + 4x) ÷ 2 = Rs. ‘5x’
Now, the profit share ratio of Amit, Riya, and Karan =
(6x × 16) : (4x × 16) : (5x × 8) = 96 : 64 : 40
Simplify → 12:8:5
So, required profit for Riya = 364000 × (8/25) = Rs.1,16,320
