      Question

      The sum of two numbers is 801. When the larger number is

      divided by the smaller one, it results in a quotient of 41 with a remainder of 3. What is the difference between the two numbers?
      A 674 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
      B 763 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
      C 339 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
      D 439 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer

      Solution

      Let, the larger number and smaller number be 'x' and 'y', respectively.

      x + y = 801 ....(i)

      x = y X 41 + 3

      Or, x = 41y + 3 ....(ii)

      Put the value of 'x' in equation (i) , we get,

      41y + 3 + y = 801

      Or, 42y = 798

      Or, y = 19

      Put the value of 'y' in equation (i) , we get,

      x + 19 = 801

      Or, x = 782

      Required difference = 782 - 19 = 763
