    ratio of total amount received by men and women is 5 : 4. But the ratio of money received by each man and each woman is 3 : 2. Find the number of men?

    Solution

    Let money received by men and women be 5x and 4x respectively. As per the question, 5x + 4x = 7,20,000 ⇒ 9x = 7,20,000⇒ x = 80,000 ∴ Amount received by men = 80,000 × 5 = Rs. 4,00,000 and Amount received by women = 80,000 × 4 = Rs. 3,20,000 Let number of men = a and ∴ Number of women = 132 – a ∴ Amount received by each man = 400000/a and Amount received by each women = 320000/(132 - a) As per the question, ⇒ (400000/a)/(320000/(132- a)) = 3/2⇒ 400000/a × (132-a)/320000 = 3/2 ⇒ (5 ( 132-a ))/4a = 3/2⇒ 1320 – 10a = 12a ⇒ 22a = 1320 ∴ a = 60 ∴ Number of men = 60
