      Question

      A 180 litre mixture of milk and water contains 40% water. If 'x' litres of milk and 'x' litres of water are added to the mixture, then the quantity of milk in the resultant mixture will be 20% more than that of water. Find the value of 'x'.

      A 108 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
      B 96 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
      C 81 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
      D None of these Correct Answer Incorrect Answer

      Solution

      Initial quantity of water in the mixture = (40/100) Γ— 180 = 72 litres

      So, initial quantity of milk = 180 βˆ’ 72 = 108 litres

      ATQ;

      (108 + x) = (72 + x) Γ— 1.2

      Or, 108 + x = 86.4 + 1.2x

      Or, 108 βˆ’ 86.4 = 1.2x βˆ’ x

      Or, 21.6 = 0.2x

      So, x = 21.6 Γ· 0.2

      So, x = 108
