Question
A container holds 260 liters of a solution of milk and
water mixed in the ratio of 7:6 respectively. ‘x’ liters of this solution is drawn out and replaced by 20 liters of water. If the resulting mixture has milk to water in the ratio 4:5, what is the value of ‘x’?Solution
ATQ,
260 liters of solution contains 140 liters of milk and 120 liters of water.
x liters of solution contains (7x/13) liters of milk and (6x/13) liters of water.
(140 – 7x/13) / (120 – 6x/13 + 20) = 4/5
(1820 – 7x) / (1820 – 6x + 260) = 4/5
(1820 – 7x) / (2080 – 6x) = 4/5
5(1820 – 7x) = 4(2080 – 6x)
9100 – 35x = 8320 – 24x
11x = 780
x = 70
So, the value of ‘x’ is 70 liters.
