Question
150 litres of a mixture (paint + oil) contains 20% oil.
How much oil should be added to make the ratio of paint to oil 5:3?Solution
Let the quantity of oil to be mixed be βxβ litres
 According to the question,
 (0.80 Γ 150)/(0.20 Γ 150 + x) = 5/3
 120/(30 + x) = 5/3
 Or, 5(30 + x) = 360
 Or, 150 + 5x = 360
 Or, 5x = 210 β x = 42
Therefore, quantity of oil to be mixed = 42 litres
