Question

    In a 360 litres solution

of milk and water, the quantity of milk is 50% more than water. When (n - 15) litres of water and (1.5n + 6) litres of milk are added, the ratio of milk to water becomes 5:3. Find the value of (3n - 10).
A 128 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
B 148 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
C 121 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
D 116 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
E None of these Correct Answer Incorrect Answer

    Solution

    ATQ,

    Let the initial quantity of water be 'p' litres. Initial quantity of milk = '1.5p' litres So, p + 1.5p = 360 Or, 2.5p = 360 Or, 'p' = 144 Initial quantity of milk = 1.5 × 144 = 216 litres Now, after adding: (216 + 1.5n + 6) : (144 + n - 15) = 5 : 3 Or, 3 × (222 + 1.5n) = 5 × (129 + n) Or, 666 + 4.5n = 645 + 5n Or, 0.5n = 21 Or, 'n' = 42 Required value = 3 × 42 - 10 = 116
