Question
An alloy ‘M’ contains lead and iron in the ratio 4:3,
and alloy ‘N’ contains iron and copper in the ratio 2:5. If 35 grams of ‘M’ and 42 grams of ‘N’ are combined, determine the final ratio of lead, iron and copper respectively.Solution
ATQ,
Weight of lead in 35 grams of 'M' = 35 × (4/7) = 20 grams
So, weight of iron in 35 grams of 'M' = 35 − 20 = 15 grams
Weight of iron in 42 grams of 'N' = 42 × (2/7) = 12 grams
So, weight of copper in 42 grams of 'N' = 42 − 12 = 30 grams
So, total weight of iron = 15 + 12 = 27 grams
So, required ratio = 20:27:30 = 20:27:30
