Question
A seller sold a mixture of oil and water for ₹270 at a
price of ₹(9/8) per liter. The mixture originally contained 180 liters of oil. After adding ‘x’ liters of oil and (x + 20) liters of water, the ratio of oil to water in the mixture becomes 2:1. Find the value of ‘x’.Solution
According to the question,
Total quantity of mixture = 270 × (8/9) = 240 litres
Quantity of water in the mixture = 240 – 180 = 60 litres
According to the question,
{(180 + x)/(60 + x + 20)} = 2/1
Or, 180 + x = 160 + 2x
Or, x = 20
