    Question

    (5n + 20) litres mixture (milk + water) contains 40%

water. If (n − 5) litres water is added to the mixture, then ratio of quantity of milk to water becomes 6 : 5. Find the value of (3n − 2)².
A 1296 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
B 1444 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
C 1521 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
D 1600 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
E 1681 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer

    Solution

    Initial quantity of water
    = 0.4 × (5n + 20) = (2n + 8) litres Initial quantity of milk
    = 5n + 20 − 2n − 8 = (3n + 12) litres ATQ; After adding water → water = 2n + 8 + n − 5 = (3n + 3) So, (3n + 12) : (3n + 3) = 6 : 5 Or, 5 × (3n + 12) = 6 × (3n + 3) Or, 15n + 60 = 18n + 18 Or, 3n = 42 Or, n = 14 Required value
    = (3n − 2)²
    = (42 − 2)²
    = 40²
    = 1600
