Question
Ravi has a 120-liter mixture containing 40% oil and the
rest water. To reduce the concentration of oil in the mixture, he plans to add water. How much water does he need to add in order to reduce the oil percentage to 12%?Solution
Present quantity of oil in the mixture = 120 X 0.4 = 48 litres Since, Ravi is adding only water, the quantity of oil will remain same in the mixture. So, new quantity of mixture = 48 ÷ 0.12 = 400 litres So, quantity of water to be added = 400 - 120 = 280 litres
