      Question

A 450 ml solution is composed of water and glucose mixed

in the ratio of 8:7. Determine the amount of glucose that must be added to the solution so that the new ratio of water to glucose becomes reversed, i.e., 7:8.
A 77(2/7) ml Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
B 73(3/7) ml Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
C 64(2/7) ml Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
D 50 ml Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
E 75 ml Correct Answer Incorrect Answer

      Solution

      Let the quantity of glucose which is to add to reverse the ratio be 'x' ml Quantity of water in the initial mixture = 450 X (8/15) = 240 ml Quantity of glucose in the initial mixture = 450 - 240 = 210 ml ATQ, {240/(210 + x) = (7/8) Or, 240 X 8 = 7 X (210 + x) Or, 1920 = 1470 + 7x Or, 1920 - 1470 = 7x Or, 7x = 450s So, 'x' = (450/7) =  64(2/7) ml Therefore,  64(2/7) ml of glucose to be added in the mixture.
