Question
In 108 litres of a mixture (milk + water), ratio of
quantity of milk to that of water in a mixture is 5:4, respectively. (2x + 8.4) litres of milk and 27 litres of water is added to the mixture such that the quantity of milk in the resultant mixture is 20% more than that of water in it. Find the value of ‘x’.Solution
Initially, Quantity of milk in the mixture = 108 × (5/9) = 60 litres Quantity of water in the mixture = 108 – 60 = 48 litres According to the question, 1.20 × (48 + 27) = 60 + 2x + 8.4 => 90 = 68.4 + 2x => x = 10.8
