Question
A mixture (milk and water) contains 40% milk and rest
192 litres water. How much milk should be added to the mixture to make the ratio of milk to water in the mixture 5:6?Solution
Initial quantity of milk in the mixture = 192 × (0.40/0.60) = 128 litres
Let the quantity of milk added be ‘x’ litres
According to the question,
(128 + x)/192 = 5/6
=> x = 160 – 128
=> x = 32
Therefore, quantity of milk added = 32 litres
